The Karczags
Rabbi Mendy and Shaindy Karczag embarked on their life journey together in August 2019. They are a dynamic couple who have been involved in Jewish education and outreach for many years. Mendy and Shaindy are known for their warm and welcoming hospitality. Their many guests enjoy their passionate sharing of Judaism, friendly relaxed atmosphere and great food!
Rabbi Mendy Karczag grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and developed a deep passion for connecting with Jewish communities from an early age. He pursued his studies in Manchester, England, before continuing at the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, NJ. Rabbi Mendy received his Rabbinic Ordination in Chicago, Illinois, where he was trained and tested under Rabbi Dovid Shochat, OBM, a respected leader in the Chabad community and former President of the Toronto Rabbinical Council. As part of his training, he served as a teacher and mentor at the Chabad Yeshiva in Chicago, nurturing the next generation of Jewish leaders.
Throughout his youth, Rabbi Mendy visited small Jewish communities around the globe, including many towns in Western Ukraine and Northern California. During these visits, he engaged with community members, coordinated events, and taught classes, gaining invaluable experience in Jewish life across diverse backgrounds.
Rebbetzin Shaindy Karczag (née Oster) also hails from Brooklyn, New York. She attended Beit Chana Seminary in Tzfat, Israel, followed by Beth Rivkah Seminary in Brooklyn. Her dedication to education led her to become a principal’s assistant in a large girls' elementary school in Brooklyn, where she formed meaningful connections with students.
In her teenage years, Shaindy spent her summers as a counselor at various Chabad Day Camps across the country, interacting with young Jewish children from diverse backgrounds. Driven by her passion for community service, she co-founded Chabad of Woodstock. Shaindy is known for her culinary talents, enhancing events, programs, and Shabbat meals with her delicious cooking.
The Karczags are the founders of Chabad of Woodstock, where they are committed to fostering a vibrant and welcoming Jewish community. From weekly Shabbat services and Torah classes to holiday celebrations and social events, their dedication ensures a strong, connected Jewish presence in Woodstock, NY.
